- The English Department provides complete teaching resources, learning environments and professional classrooms for Drama Production and Simultaneous Interpretation training. (State-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities and equipment are provided, including professional classrooms for drama, interpretation training, and public speaking, to ensure students have access to high-quality teaching resources.)

Teaching Philosophy
The English Department encourages students to share and express their thoughts as part of our teaching methods. Teachers help students build critical, logical perspectives and structure by questioning their answers. Curriculum Design
For English Department’s curriculum design, the school regularly collects student feedback and suggestions to improve the course outlines. With this, the Department hopes to offer an array of exciting courses to students that allow them to acquire varied knowledge and valuable lessons.

Curriculum Design
Progressive learning is one of the key teaching methods of the English Department during a student’s four years as an English major.
In freshman year, students are exposed to a wide range of classic literary masterpieces in which they may develop critical and logical thinking.
In sophomore year, students will take translation and linguistics-related courses to gain a deeper understanding of the English language and its structure.
In junior year, compulsory courses will be composed of mainly translation and interpretation-related classes, where students can utilize the knowledge and tools they have gained from previous learning experiences.
Finally, during the senior year, students are required to take a “Seminar on Research Writing and Presentation” course to present and share the outcome of their four years as an English major.
Graduates from the Department of English at Soochow University not only possess literary expertise and strong logical skills; but have also developed translation skills, which expand their career opportunities beyond just English teaching and service industries.
